It’s been a while since I’ve given an update. That’s because the Ruff-Air Mooney has been undergoing an extensive maintenance process that started in February in addition to my training towards A&P certification.

Control rods needing some TLC.
When completed, the airplane will have refurbished controls, new brakes and tires, as well as a sleeker look with less antennas hanging out. The airframe is 53 years old and some moving parts are original. By addressing those items proactively, I am reducing the chance of them needing unplanned replacement due to wear. It has taken a while to get parts and carve out the time to work on it with guidance from other certified mechanics. This process has given me a deeper understanding of the engineering of my airplane and how it is so solidly built.

I have completed all 3 written exams for A&P certification. The combination of work experience with self study has prepared me well for this next step. I’m positive that my new position at Boeing will further enhance my knowledge base in these areas.

While starting a new job, I’m also in finish up mode with a few things. Having a safe aircraft to use and share is most important and will help to complete the certifications required. Once A&P certified, I’ll be back to work on Commercial and Flight Instructor to further expand sharing the world of flight. One foot in front of the other!
